What is the Third Eye and why should Christians know about it.
First let’s look at Wikipedia:
The 3rd or Inner Eye – A metaphysical opening which refers to the 6th chakra (brow), that leads to higher consciousness. A new age symbol of enlightenment.
Okay… so the Third Eye is a psychic ability connected to the occult. Dictionary.com defines occult as knowledge of secret or supernatural powers, beyond the the range of ordinary senses, or secret/hidden information only available to the initiated.
Next we need to know how one “opens” this Third Eye. The main way that one opens himself up to the spirit realm, is through meditation. It is through meditation that one achieves an altered state of consciousness. Constantly you will find that meditation, or the emptying of one’s mind, is the doorway to all metaphysical activity.
Back to the 6th chakra. The chakras usually relate to yoga, but not always. The 6th chakra in yoga is the brow. When kundalini (serpent power) rises to the the brow, there is enlightenment that is characterized by light. Those using yoga as a means of enlightenment get results by meditation, forced breathing patterns and using unnatural positions to force the power at the base of the spine upwards with the crown chakra as the main goal.
Another way enlightenment occurs is through meditation and visualization. Certain techniques are used to “see” and direct the serpent power up the spine through the chakras (nerve centers/wheels).
Here is another description. The kundalini rises and then goes into the brain and then down into the pituitary gland which awakens the pineal gland. When they meet there is union. This is an initiation of the birth of passage into another dimension and beyond. This is supposed to cause an explosion of light.
The third eye is also known as:
The middle eye of Shiva in Buddhism.
In Hinduism it is the eye of clairvoyance. This Hindus wear the Tilak. The red spot between the brows. When I was researching my Goddess Worship post, I looked at a link, describing Christian women who have been applying the red spot on their forehead and worshiping each other’s divinity.
In Egypt it is known as The Eye of Horus or the Eye of Osiris.
In Freemasonry, it is the All Seeing Eye. The same one that is found on our one dollar bill. This All Seeing Eye is surrounded by light.
But the eye usually means the same…esoteric knowledge that man so desires. This eye represents the passing into a spiritual world than man has no business entering. It is forbidden because it will deceive and oppress.
In Genesis 3:5-7 For God doth know..then your eyes shall be opened and ye shall be as Gods…knowing Good and Evil….And the eyes of them both opened.
The Hebrew word for eyes is not plural but singular so what the serpent said was that their eye would be broadened by knowledge. Scripture here is not talking about the physical organ but the eye of the soul.
So for today…opening yourself up or opening your third eye is the same. It is opening a gate between two worlds. Meditation is a sure way of accomplishing this opening up of yourself especially through Contemplative prayer. This is simply meditation masked with Christian terminology. The fear that accompanies entrance into deep meditative levels is there for a reason…it is a warning from God.
I have been reading a manual for opening the third eye from, “The Awakening of the Third Eye” by Samuel Sagan.
It immediately states that meditation is not for relaxation, and that the third eye is the gate that leads within.
Here are some quotes:
“Developing the third eye is a direct way of expanding your conscious universe and discovering your essential values, so that you may fathom your own mystery.” (page 13)
“Suppose an angel comes to you, truly. If you have been trying to visualize angels every morning for a few months how will you know whether it is a true angel or one that you made up…The real problem is, once these visions come to you, how to discern what is real from what is a fancy of the mind” [page 18]
[I thought this was very interesting..he was acknowledging that visualization created visions from your own making]
“You see the universe and it’s finality completely different…It is not what you believe or what you have read that will change your spiritual life..it is what you can experience directly.” [page 18]
[See how a change of worldview is suggested here and the Bible eliminated]
“Whenever there is a vibration or a light, there is a being behind it” (page 160)
[The Bible tells us that Satan comes as a white light]
“What to do with an angel? Let its glory become alive in you…to worship a god first you have to become a god.” (page 161)
[How many times have we seen this? Almost all communications from the spirit world tell us that we are as gods, just like the serpent in Genesis]
“This tragedy is quite common. There are many people who seem to be desperate for spiritual progress. They go on crying ‘I wish God could help me’…and if you look above them, what can you see? Guides and angels who keep whispering ‘Please tune into us, please receive our light‘…If these people could tune in, they would immediately receive a shower of spiritual gifts.” (page 185)
[Light? We already know what the “light” is in the metaphysical world. It is Satan. And this shower of spiritual gifts?..hmmm..]
2 Corinthians 11:14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
Have you ever read the prophecies of those on the Elijah list? Have you ever had someone tell you that they have a continual conversation with God throughout the day? Have you listened to those who proclaim to the world that their visions are from God? Have you ever heard a prophet say that he could forgive your sins for you? Have you ever heard a TV evangelist say that “I am a God”? Have you ever attended a meeting where the “spiritual” gifts are so numerous that chaos erupts?
I do believe that spiritual gifts are available to us today for the edification of the church…I also believe that many are the products of divination, and are false. We have to discern what is God’s truth and what is man’s truth. The Bible is the deciding factor.
Is it possible that some Christians and some who claim to be Christian have opened themselves up to demonic forces and truly believe they are hearing from God, but are not? YES! That spirit guides and angels you have summoned from another metaphysical realm are holy? NO! They are not holy.
In a world that is giving way to a New Age, a new spiritual mysticism, we have to, as Christians, discern what is from God and what is not. We are to test the spirits.
I John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
I beg of you..do not practice anything that is at all similar to eastern meditation. Meditation is the common factor to all metaphysical and ungodly methods. If you have ….stop and repent…..ask God’s forgiveness.
The goal of the New Age is to unite all religions. Hold strong onto your faith in Jesus Christ. I know many reject this but…. He is indeed THE ONLY WAY.
John 14:6 “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
Also remember that Satan is a great counterfeiter and deceiver. He imitates the things of Christ. Satan is not the light. The Lord Jesus Christ is.
So this verse bears repeating.
2 Corinthians 11:14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light .
Pray daily that the Lord will give you discernment in these last days of great deception. Discern the light of the world, Jesus, from the counterfeit light of Satan’s enlightment. Many caught up in this spiritual deception and false system are experiencing the darkest time in their lives. Depression, anxiety, panic attacks seem to be common factors among those who have crossed over into this forbidden world. Those dark spirits who follow you do so because you invited them.
Jesus Christ demonstrated His power over the demonic world. Only He can cast out those dark spirits. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ who triumphed over Satan and sin on the cross. He rose again. He is our Savior and will cleanse us from sin and fill us with the Holy Spirit. Faith is trust. Trust in Him.

the wages of sin is death. It’s like when you disobey your government.. if you murder or steal, you go to jail.. there is a price to pay.. yet Jesus paid the price for us. Do you honestly believe Gma, that you can look God in the eyes and say, I have never sinned before you.. Can you honestly say, I am blameless, spotless, clean, undefiled, perfect, genuine…. be honest with yourself.. Gma, you need to hear this and you want to also because you know that there is something more, there is something that is not 100% with your belief system.. You are here because you see something…
look in the mirror and tell me that you are 100% righteous because even if you are 80% righteous.. the wages of sin is death.. if you are 80% righteous.. you have 20% to answer for… what do you do with that 20% sin? explain that pls…. How are you going to wangle your way and say to God, “well I deserve heaven because I was 80% righteous?” please.. our righteousness is pathetic against the Most Holy God! Our goodness is dust….

Ok, now let me get off the internet because there is plenty of starving people to be fed, naked to be clothed, children to be protected, and elders to be taken care of.
Keep on this discussion going my cyber-Christians 🙂
I bet your talk is changing the world! 🙂
This is my last comment here. Sorry but like I said, there is some real works to be done.
Thank you Kim, for letting me participate in this conversation
God bless you all.

Gma,
Yes, there are real works to be done which makes me think of a verse that tells us what our attitude should be.
John 7:18 He who speaks on his own does so to gain honor for himself, but he who works for the honor of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.
Galations tells us:
Gal 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
Our works are commendable but works and faith go hand in hand. But our works do not save us…..
We are saved by faith in Jesus Christ and not by works.
Goodbye Gma…indeed it is time that this dialogue between us be closed.

Matthew 6:21-22. Jesus said, ‘For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.’ Then he went on to say, ‘The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.”
If thine eye be single??? Sounds like a reference to the 3rd eye, no?
Jesus was a mystic, speaking of spiritual re-birth through fire and water, being cleansed by the Spirit, etc…the Jews thought he was possesed by demons, a drunkard, and mad…just some food for thought.
God bless!

your interpretation is nuts… where on earth do you come with this? the focus is the heart…. you are twisting scripture to tickle your own ears..
December 29, 2008 at 2:26 pm
Kim
Here is an interpretation of that passage from Matthew 6 from Bible scholar David Guzik
Full of light . . . full of darkness: In any case, Jesus tells us that either our eye is directed at heavenly things (and therefore full of light) or it is directed at earthly things (and therefore full of darkness). Building on the analogy of the eye, Jesus reminds us that if we are blind in our eyes, the whole body is blind. The darkness is then great in our whole body. In the same way, our attitude towards material treasure will either bring great light or great darkness to our lives.

I dont think my interpretation is nuts at all. The Gospels are vague and can be interpreted thousands of ways (my gut tells me this is the way it was meant to be) So in that case who is to say that the mainstream evangelical views are not the twisted ones?
my whole point was this article focuses on Satan as the light bringer, when Jesus was speaking about bringing light through the whole 4 gospels.
FYI – I’m a Christian. But I do see the more esoteric side of The Good News. Kingdom of Heaven is within not in a Book or in the sky and I dont think I am any less of a Christian because of it.

Hi Jon,
Satan deceives by appearing like an angel of light. That is what the references mean.
The fundamentals of Christianity are pretty the same as they have always been. I like what Paul Washer says about interpretations. If your interpretation is different from what the early fathers teach (hermeneutics) historical teachings, you are probably wrong.
Daily bible study is necessary for the Christian today….I sit quietly each day, starting with prayer asking that the Holy Spirit will teach me. Finding a good bible-based church is also essential to keep Christians from all the deceptions invading the church today. Only a thorough knowledge of scripture will keep many from the false teachings.
Dominionism or eastern philosophy teaches divinity within, but the Bible teaches that our hearts are wicked and even our best works are like filthy rags.
The Gospel teaches that after we repent as Christians and turn our lives over to Christ, we are to pick up our cross daily and follow Jesus. Is this what you do? I love the cross…it makes me feel so unworthy. The more i feel i am in the presence of God, the more my sin is exposed.
The light….it shines and exposes us for what we are and makes us dependant on Jesus.

sorry Jon, did not mean to sound offensive in saying that, but I really think that you need to pray to God and read scripture carefully to understand it. I used to believe anything that was taught and then I prayed for truth and a lot was exposed! pray about it

Thanks guys! I will be the first to admit I dont have all the answers, no man does, and I also believe meditation, sacred geometrty, Qaballah, etc is dangerous and is of demonic origin (that’s why it is so tempting to partake in it rather than simply pray and read the Gospels).
Also, my brother in law is pastor of a non denominational church and I’ve been to many a Bible studies where some of the topics I’ve brought up were seen as out of line, hehe. God bless and GREAT blog Kim!!!

wondering…
anyone here read a book entitled ‘Autobiography of a Yogi’?
January 4, 2009 at 8:31 pm

I have looked at this online….it is blatant Hinduism. It promotes self-divinity and the references to Jesus were unbiblical. I saw a reference to Matthew 6:33 and it was taken totally out of context.
January 5, 2009 at 3:15 am
Anne Noyd
alrighty… have you read it in its entirety though?
January 5, 2009 at 9:49 am
Kim
Naw…not interested in reading it any further. I easily found biblical heresy in the few chapters I scanned. When you are well versed in scripture and know it in its context of the entire Bible it is easy to pick up on the untruths.
Many “enlightened” writers use the name of Jesus and quote scripture yet do not know its truth or meaning.
But it is only through knowledge of scripture that truth can be found.
Consider 2 Timothy 3:16-17
“All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly trained equipped for every good work.”
So to be right with God (righteous) we must use the Holy Bible which is enough for EVERY good work and which teaches us to repent and turn away from sin because man is not divine.
When deception is found in other writings the Christian is to reject it..
2 Corinthians 6:14 asks us “…what fellowship can light have with darkness?”
We are further told to “be separate”, and to “touch no unclean thing.”

okayz.
Just got done reading the book and must admit that is some pretty amazing stuff.
Sidetracking though… Marriage between two persons, in the Biblical context,
‘and they shall be one flesh’,
is that relating to physical intercourse or is there more to that statement?
January 5, 2009 at 1:22 pm
Kim
Amazing?
Here is a quote:
“The true basis of religion is not belief, but intuitive experience. Intuition is the soul’s power of knowing God. To know what religion is really all about, one must know God,” said Paramhansa Yogananda in the book “The Essence of Self-Realization”. He further wrote that “Self- Realization is the knowing in all parts of body, mind, and soul that you are now in possession of the kingdom of God; that you do not have to pray that it come to you; that God’s omnipresence is your omnipresence; and that all that you need to do is improve your knowing.”
This is putting oneself on an equal basis with God. I guess this should be expected that man wants to believe this because isn’t it human nature that we love ourselves, isn’t human nature that we look out for #1? Don’t we go throughout the day feeding and taking care of ourselves, making the selections we like to eat, picking the best spot to sit, loving compliments instead of criticism. Yes indeed we do love ourselves very much and that is why eastern philosophy appeals to man’s inner desire. Men want to be God.
Of course we learn of this in the very first book of the Bible. Satan tempts Eve with “For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
Nothing much has changed has it?
But there is a way..it is through Jesus Christ and his shed blood and resurrection, that we can be forgiven of our sin and prideful nature. Instead of wanting to be like God we need to bow down and worship the True and Living God in humility and repentance, wanting to make Him Lord and King of our lives.
That God would send His only Son to die for a wretch like me, is the most amazing thing I can think of.

Did the value of persons increase before or after the crucifixion or are they still no better than worms?
January 6, 2009 at 8:54 am

The verse Matthew 19:4 and Genesis 2:23 that you must be referring to is”
“For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”
The NIV states that marriage creates a family unit, bound as one flesh, of which sexual union is an expression. The Genesis verse is in regard to marriage and the Matthew verse is the answer Jesus gives to the Pharisees looking to trick him, about divorce.
I Cor 6:17 also states the “two will become one flesh” as it pertains to sexual immorality.
If you are really interested please read these passages in the Bible in the context they were given. If you have further questions about this subject and i don’t have an aticle with this thread i may be able to lead you one.

You need to do more research before you write about this. To open your third eye is not to invite “darkness” into your life. To open your third eye is to become a part of God. God lives in each and every one of us and each and every living thing. If done right anyone that opens their third eye will be close to God and share with him/her.

Kim
I have done much research…you should see the stacks and stacks papers in my office. Also i have talked to many many people here online and personally. I also write from personal experience. There are many ways people have the third-eye experiences, which really is just a romantic way to say opened to the occult metaphysical world. Meditation is the most common but drugs and transference also are means.
Satan comes as an angel of light to deceive. That is why the experiences can be so pleasant. One thinks they are in contact with God but the reality is they are deceiving spirits. 1 timothy 4:1
The pagan concept of “God in everything” is panentheism. As a christian i reject panentheism. The God in the Bible warns of contacting the spirit world (divination). Since I worship the God in the Bible I heed and obey scripture.

Michael.. find one part in the bible that claims that opening the third eye will get you to become a part of God. If I may just add this… ‘what is man that God is mindful of me’ I am sooooooooooooooooooooooooo much lower than God. God is HOly, mighty, King! I am mere dust.. nothing without Jesus.
We are not God! God is God and man is man.. man is not God…
Michael.. please back up yourself with scripture because there is no where in the bible (bible) is what God made for man to understand who He is, it is God’s written word. The bible is 100% True.. so if there is nothing in the bible mentioning that you must open your third eye, then that is a lie! and if there is nothing in the bible that says God is in everything, then that is a lie as well.
The third eye is a path of darkness. Jesus is the one and only way!
