Woe to the Shepherds Who Feed Themselves

And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel, prophesy, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD unto the shepherds; Woe be to the shepherds of Israel that do feed themselves! should not the shepherds feed the flocks? Ezek 34:1-2

As I look around the world of religion in our society one thing has become very clear. The masks of the false shepherds of the apostate church are coming off. More and more the false prophets of today’s religious establishment are showing themselves to be the wolves that they truly are. In years past it has taken great discernment to see and hear the little bits of leaven they have used to poison their flocks. But lately it seems the apostasy is much more open and above board.

A couple of the most blatant examples of this are Joel Osteen and T.D. Jakes. Both were recently given an opportunity to boldly proclaim the gospel on the national stage. Osteen in fact was given that opportunity twice, once on the Larry King Show and again on the ABC daytime show The View. Jakes had his chance during a lengthy interview on National Public Radio. Both were asked during the course of the interview if they believed that Jesus was the only way to heaven. Neither would say that Jesus is the way the truth and the life and that no man comes to God except by him. Both of these wolves in sheep’s clothing left room for some to come to God another way.

Turned Away at the Door of the Elephant Room

By Erin Benzinger…

About 45 minutes ago, a friend and I walked through the doors of Harvest Bible Chapel in Rolling Meadows, IL. Why? To attend The Elephant Room 2, of course! Upon approaching the registration desk, the volunteers noticed that they could not find my name tag. I was ushered to the side, where I was confronted by Harvest Bible Chapel elder Jim Rowan and told that my registration had been revoked and refunded and that I was to leave the premises immediately. One must wonder, how does this harmonize with the purpose statement of The Elephant Room which states, among other things:

The Elephant Room is more than an event. It is the outgrowth of an idea. The idea that the best way forward for the followers of Jesus lies not in crouching behind walls of disagreement but in conversation among all kinds of leaders about what the scriptures actually teach. We must insist on the biblical Gospel, right doctrine and practice but not isolate ourselves from relationship even with those who believe much differently. (Online Source)

Newt Gingrich Visits the “Holy Ghost Bartender”

Post by Sarah Posner

Today Newt Gingrich made an appearance at River Church in Tampa, Florida, pastored by Rodney Howard Browne. Slate’s Dave Weigel tweeted that in introducing Gingrich, Browne prayed that America “will not allow the killing of unborn babies, and the takeover of Islam” and “the Constitution that we have, and your word, and Jesus is the only way we can be delivered from this plight.”

Browne is no inconsequential—or uncontroversial—figure in the world of charismatic Christianity. He’s been described by Christianity Today as the “often flamboyant Pentecostal preacher.” He’s associated with the “holy laughter” manifestation of charismatic gifts, which the same CT piece characterized as “rang[ing] from uncontrollable laughter to the noises of animals.”

Full Story HERE

*Mormonism

Mormons like to think they are mainstream Christians but this is not so. Christianity has to hold to primary essential doctrines such as the sole authority of the Bible, the Deity of Christ, Jesus died a substitutionary death for our sin and that He rose from the dead and that He is coming again. Salvation is grace through faith alone.

Mormonism contradicts all of the above when one closely studies what they believe. This makes Mormonism a cult.

THE KEY TO SANCTIFICATION

(Friday Church News Notes, January 20, 2012, www.wayoflife.org

Many teachers have espoused one particular key to sanctification in the Christian life. For some it is “abiding in Christ,” and they use John 15 as the key. For others it is a second blessing or a spiritual baptism of some sort. For others it is to rest in or dwell on one’s identification with Christ at the cross (e.g., the “Calvary Road”). John Piper proposes “Christian hedonism” as the key.

Yes, many “keys” have been proposed, but the Bible takes a multiple approach to sanctification and spiritual victory. It is not only resting or not only abiding or whatever, it is abiding and resting and yielding and obeying and avoiding and pursuing, etc. If there were one “key” to sanctification and spiritual victory, the New Testament epistles would be much shorter than they are. Writing to the church at Corinth, for example, Paul would merely have laid out the “key” and that would have been the end of the problem.

The Symptoms of Seduction by Spirits

“Now it came about when Jerusalem was captured in the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and all his army came to Jerusalem and laid siege to it; in the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, in the ninth day of the month, the city wall was breached.”

This series of articles has been difficult for the Discernment Research Group to publish. As we read the account of Pastor Steve and Sarah Berger’s loss of their teenage son Josiah in a tragic car accident, our hearts stirred with sympathy for them and their family, for their church and their friends. Yet we rejoiced with them in their assurance that Josiah, a professing believer in Jesus Christ, was in Heaven and in the legacy he had left here on earth.

However, amidst our sympathy for them and thoughtful consideration, we decided it necessary to rebut the New Age view of Heaven that was publicly being spread amongst the evangelical community in the Bergers’ book, Have Heart: bridging the gulf between heaven and earth.[2] Openly endorsed by such high-profile church figures as James Robison, Chuck Missler and Greg Laurie,[3] and promoted by various media outlets[4] and Koinonia House,[5] this book required a public response.[6]

In a point-by-point biblical and theological analysis and commentary, Have Heart was reviewed by Pastor Larry DeBruyn in his 5-part series “Do the Dead Communicate with the Living?” The Discernment Research Group thought this review of the Bergers’ book was necessary because the issues it introduces to America’s evangelical community; namely a New Age understanding of Heaven that allows for visitations from Christian loved ones who have entered the afterlife.

Here is a new age site that gives startling information on how to find a medium…

FINDING A MEDIUM

To find a medium of good reputation, you could try asking friends and work pals. Perhaps the best place to start would be a local Spiritualist church. You may find one advertised in your local paper. Folks there will put you in touch with a medium of good repute, and will understand and help with any questions or concerns you may have.

It has been interesting to observe who is teaching falsely and their progression. For instance look at a few of these quotes from Greg Laurie.

“How can a God of love send people to hell? God doesn’t send anyone to hell. We send ourselves there. Hell was never created for man but for the devil and his angels.” [How To Share Your Faith, p. 66, bold added, see also this same statement in how to live FOREVER, copyright 1999, p. 20]

Then there are his “void” and “loneliness” teachings which seem to be the essence of bad news….not sin.

“Before we can truly appreciate this good news though, we need to understand the bad news, which is a serious problem we all have.

“Every person is lonely – lonely in a way that relationships can’t fill . . . children can’t fill . . . friends can’t fill. I believe it’s a loneliness for God.” (Why Believe? p. xvi, Billy Graham Library Selection special edition, copyright 1995)”

“Besides “adding to” the gospel (Galatians 1:8-9; Proverbs 30:5-6) by adding a “void” that doesn’t exist, Laurie preaches the opposite of the gospel. God says, “The wicked in his proud countenance does not seek God; God is in none of his thoughts.” (Psalm 10:4) “And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, . . .” (Romans 1:28) And, “There is none who seeks after God.” (Romans 3:11) And, “An evil man seeks only rebellion.” (Proverbs 17:11; see also Romans 1:18-32; 3:10-18; Proverbs 14:2). Psalm 10:3 says the wicked “renounce the Lord.” John 3:20 says they hate the light (1 John 1:5). Romans 1:30 describes them as “haters of God.” They are not lonely for Him.”

Greg Laurie is also known for his affiliation with Rick Warren and the Saddleback Church. It seems evident that continued associations with false teachers escalates one’s own downfall.

Source

Over the last five years I have also heard about the teachings of Chuck Missler. The opinions vary widely depending on one’s church background and how one perceives extra-biblical or edgy teachings. He seems to be basically well-liked by Pentecostals, Charismatics and those who are affiliated with the Calvary Church. But there are those in these denominations who are uncomfortable with him.

A quick look into some of his teachings rather shocked me. Here is an excerpt from “The Ten Virgins.”

“Later when the five foolish virgins came, they said, “Lord, Lord, open the door.” But he answered them saying, “I know you not” (Matthew 25:12).

“I Know You Not

“The Greek word used here for know is oida (Strong’s #1492), which means to see, to perceive or to “know intimately.” The Lord was saying to the five foolish virgins: “I don’t know you intimately; we don’t have a close relationship. If we did, you would have obeyed Me and brought more oil.” In other words, there was no fellowship between them. The Lord only knew them by observation.

“The five foolish virgins in this parable obviously are in heaven. But because they didn’t know (oida) the Lord intimately, He didn’t let them in to the wedding ceremony. They were not qualified to enter.”

The traditional teaching is that the door is closed to those who the Lord does not know. There is no entrance into heaven. But he has changed it to mean that the relationship was not intimate enough? That those He doesn’t know…”I know you not”…will gain entrance? Entrance into heaven but not the wedding feast?

I looked up Strongs #1942* and the words “know intimately” do not exist in the definition. Missler has the words in parenthesis which usually means an exact quote.

Next I watched a video about Missler’s Bible Codes that explained that 10 names in Genesis 5 spells out a prophecy of Jesus Christ. The combined meanings of the names of Adam, Seth, Enosh, Kenan, Mahalalel, Jared, Enoch, Methuselah, Lamech and Noah…translate into this sentence.

“Man-appointed- mortal -sorrow,-the blessed God-shall come down-teaching-his death shall bring – the despairing-rest or comfort.”

He said all you have to do is go to the Lexicon and verify the meanings of the names. I did. I could only verify three of the ten. Adam is man, Jared means descent, and Noah means comfort.

The true meaning of the name Lamech is “powerful” not despairing. Despairing is the ninth word of his sentence. But powerful would not fit into his “integrated message system.”

Strong’s H3929 – Lemek

Lamech = “powerful”

1) the 5th lineal descendant from Cain, husband of Adah and Zillah, father of sons, Jabal, Jubal, and Tubal-cain, and daughter, Naamah

2) father of Noah

Missler says not to trust what he says or teaches. Maybe he is counting on the fact that few really take the time to actually test the teachings they are listening to. He even tells us in the article on his site, “…the views concerning the meaning and significance of the original roots are not free of controversy and are subject to variant readings.” Right. That is why this teaching is so meaningless.

It is no wonder that men who do not love Christ enough to preach Him and the cross, end up endorsing a book that instructs us to contact the dead…something the Bible strictly prohibits.

Please read the featured article.

The last six months has produced a proliferation of cosmic predictions….Elenin….Planet X….Niribu….black-outs….polar shifts….etc. The fear mongering has been coming from many sources.

Consider these musings from an entity called Ramtha channeled by cultist JZ Knight, Yelm, Washington.

“The Earth is going to shift on its axis three degrees at first, a small amount but a lot. A three-degree axis shift is momentous. It is coming because of the melting of the icecaps. And when are we going to see a shift? We will see a shift by the year 2010 — it is coming up — and that three-degree shift will happen strangely.”

— Ramtha

Ramtha also teaches about Planet X, the 10th planet, which I guess is the planet of Gods. Ramtha predicted that JZ Knight will die within the year (this was November 2010) and will join him on his plane level. All members were told to prepare for calamities spring or fall 2011. Stock foods, prepare shelters and seek high ground.

These things did not happen, yet people continue to follow these false leaders even when their predictions fall short. We see this also in the false prophetic Christian sites….like the Elijah List.

Here is another source of false information…This is a posting from a conspiracy site Above Top Secret…I found it when researching a supposed comet coming our way…Elenin.

”I’m really getting tired of hearing it, I’m tired of the arguments as to what it going to happen or who was right. It’s absolutely *snip* ridiculous. No one can do it. I have performed remote viewing on occasion, I have even Astral Traveled and had Lucid dreams. I’ve had visits from my guides, as well as spirits if you will, but you know what none of them do. They don’t ever tell me an event from the future to go and warn the masses. They know just about as much that is going on as you do.”

By this person’s own admission, his information from spirit guides could not predict the future and they knew only what was presently evident.

Also consider this research from Michael Heiser…..

The Myth of a Sumerian 12th Planet:

“Nibiru” According to the Cuneiform Sources

Those familiar with either the writings of Zecharia Sitchin or the current internet rantings about “the return of Planet X” are likely familiar with the word “nibiru”. According to self-proclaimed ancient languages scholar Zecharia Sitchin, the Sumerians knew of an extra planet beyond Pluto. This extra planet was called Nibiru. Sitchin goes on to claim that Nibiru passes through our solar system every 3600 years. Some believers in Sitchin’s theory contend that Nibiru will return soon – May of 2003 to be exact. These followers of Sitchin’s ideas also refer to Nibiru as “Planet X”, the name given to a planet that is allegedly located within our solar system but beyond Pluto. Adherents to the “returning Planet X hypothesis” believe the return of this wandering planet will bring cataclysmic consequences to earth.[1]

Is Sitchin correct – Is Nibiru a 12th planet that passes through our solar system every 3600 years? Did the Sumerians know this?[2] Are those who equate Sitchin’s Nibiru with Planet X correct in this view? Unfortunately for Sitchin and his followers, the answer to each of these questions is no.

SOURCE

Information which clearly is coming from the occultic spirit world and ancient texts has more than filtered into Christiandom. Many prophecy sites have latched onto this misinformation and declare themselves prophets or watchmen. When the warnings do not come to pass, there is no apology or concern. There is no research to the source of their information.

While I do believe that we need to keep our eyes open to events predicted in the Bible we must not let ourselves be mislead by many sites that sell survival supplies. One popular site asks for money to be an insider to such information and charges to access articles that one can find easily enough by searching the web. I discovered that his website is his job and that is how he makes his living. Not much different from cutting edge sites that are really huge publishers bilking worried Christians of their own making.

The sources I provided show that information is often indeed demonic. There will be signs indeed but we must be careful to dismiss the false prophecies of those who stray far from scripture.

updated 1/1/2012 1:21:20 PM ET 2012-01-01T18:21:20

By Charles Q. Choi

On Dec. 21, 2012, many doomsday believers fear the apocalypse — anything from a rogue planet smashing into us to our world spinning end over end. However, the world should expect nothing more next year than the winter solstice, the longest night of the year, NASA says.

Many people point to the end of the Mayan Long Count calendar on Dec. 21, 2012 as evidence of the coming apocalypse, but astronomers have been quick to stress that there is nothing to be concerned about.

According to the ancient Mayan calendar, next year’s winter solstice marks the end of a 144,000-day cycle. This cycle, which begins at the mythical Maya creation date, has already been repeated 12 times. The 13th will end in 2012, capping a full 5,200-year Mayan cycle of creation.

This date has long been shrouded in mystery, with many claiming that it will bring destruction to our planet. [End of the World? Top Doomsday Fears]

Rogue planet Nibiru?

One fear is that a rogue planet that has been dubbed “Nibiru” or “Planet X” is supposedly aimed at Earth. Self-proclaimed Nibiru expert Nancy Lieder, who says she is in contact with the aliens from Zeta Reticuli, first said Nibiru would cause widespread disaster in May 2003, only to change it to Dec. 21, 2012.

There is, however, no evidence that Nibiru is real.

“Nibiru is ridiculous because it doesn’t exist — it never existed as anything other than a figment of the imagination by pseudo-scientists who don’t seem bothered by a complete lack of evidence,” astronomer Don Yeomans, manager of NASA’s Near-Earth Object program office at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., told SPACE.com.

Advertise | AdChoicesAdvertise | AdChoices

Advertise | AdChoices

.There is no basis for the claim that it might be lurking behind the sun, as it could not have hidden from observation until now, Yeomans said. If such a planet was headed toward Earth by Dec. 21, 2012, it would already be visible to the naked eye.

Cosmic alignments?

There are also concerns that planets or stars might line up in ways that will transform Earth. For instance, some theorists claim that from our point of view, the sun will cross in front of the plane of our galaxy on Dec. 21. However, the sun already does this twice a year, Yeomans said.

In fact, the sun will eventually cross the plane of our galaxy. However, the sun is about 67 light-years from the galactic plane, so it should take several million years to do so, Yeomans said. Even then, when our solar system finally does cross the plane, nothing special will occur, he added. [10 Failed Doomsday Predictions]

Some also claim that gravitational effects from planets lining up with each other will somehow affect Earth. However, there is no planetary alignment due on Dec. 21, 2012, “and if there were, it wouldn’t cause any problems,” Yeomans said.

The only bodies that have any significant gravitational impact on Earth are the moon and the sun, effects we see as the tides. Tidal effects from other bodies in our solar system are negligible at best, and in any case, we have experienced them for millions of years without notice.

Solar storms?

Solar storms — deluges of energetic particles from the sun — do happen, usually waxing and waning in cycles that last roughly 11 years. When these charged particles collide with Earth, they can trigger auroras and damage satellites and power lines, although not really inflicting any lasting harm, Yeomans said.

There are accounts of a solar “super-storm” slamming into Earth in 1859. Although that caused relatively little damage back then, there are concerns that such a storm might cause far more harm now that our world is more dependent on electronics.

Yet, there is no evidence that such a super-storm will happen on Dec. 21 of next year, Yeomans said.

Flip-flopping Earth?

There is some alarm that 2012 could see the flipping of Earth’s poles — either the planet’s geographical poles, which mark the Earth’s axis of rotation, or its magnetic poles, which our compasses point toward.

But, there is no reason to fear such an occurrence, scientists said, because the moon stabilizes our planet’s spin. The planet’s magnetic poles do flip, but over periods of about 500,000 years, and not suddenly, “but over thousands of years,” with no evidence of a flip on Dec. 21, 2012, Yeomans said.

Even if the planet’s magnetic poles do flip, no real problems would occur, other than the inconvenience of us having to change our compasses from north to south, he added.

Cosmic impacts?…..

“There are no known near-Earth objects in 2012 that present a credible risk to Earth,” Yeomans said. “None, zero, zip, nada.”

But despite evidence to the contrary, doomsdays theorists have garnered attention, and similar prophecies will continue to proliferate unless scientists become more involved in bringing truth to these outlandish claims, Yeomans said.

Mounting hysteria regarding these unfounded doomsday predictions “will improve only if scientists get more engaged in debunking pseudoscience,” he said.

Once I was prescribed Celexa to help me through my weepy period of menopause. Looking back I wish I had just relied on God to get me through this emotional roller-coaster ride. Instead, the drug opened my mind up to the paranormal world with visions and “words.” In essense I become a channeler. Being a Christian, I thought God was using me in a special way by the guidance I thought I was receiving. Instead I was listening to the enemy.

Today it is easy to come across those who say they are receiving visions and words from the Lord on a daily basis. I was there once and it is very seducing, but it is usually deception.

Deception by divination will usually lead to pride and paranoid delusion. Because of the nature of the evil one, and the grace of God, warning signs will come. If unheeded, this road leads to destruction.

Coming back to biblical teachings involved throwing myself on the mercy of God for my pride and rebellion. I had to pray that all abilities not from God be completely removed. And they were!

Here is an interesting comment from Bob Dewaay:

Divination is forbidden not because it does not work, but because it does. It works to put people in touch with spiritual forces and secret knowledge. … The evil spirits who dispense this information intend to keep people from coming to God through Messiah. They also seek to deceive Christians into thinking that what has been provided through Christ is insufficient. They are very good at what they do.

SOURCE

Prescribed psychotropic drugs are not the only danger. This is only one way that a person can open themselves to deception. There are many ways. There is the impartation of false anointings, drugs, alcohol, eastern meditation, repetition of word, hypnosis, visualization (very occult) , and the seduction of today’s hypnotic music. The church is being bombarded with all these deceptions and spiritual influences and they must be rejected instead of being accepted.

Please also be warned that the terms paranormal and metaphysical both mean….occult.

Okay now for the feature article:

How should a Christian respond to evidence of paranormal activity?”

Answer: The word paranormal can be defined as “the occurrence, or perception of, an event without scientific explanation, or other purportedly supernatural phenomena.” Paranormal activity is an encompassing term that includes not only ghosts and hauntings and demonic activity, but also includes other unexplainable phenomena such as unidentified flying objects (UFOs), and extrasensory perception (ESP), to name just a few. With the proliferation of movies and television shows that in one way or another sensationalize paranormal activity, it is clear that many are indeed fascinated with this realm. In fact, a 2007 low-budget movie titled Paranormal Activity went on to become one of the most profitable movies of all time. How then, should Christians respond when we read about supposed hauntings and other paranormal occurrences?

A common misconception is that disembodied spirits can remain on earth or perhaps come back to “haunt” or otherwise interact with us. However, nothing in the Bible supports this belief. Rather, “man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment” (Hebrews 9:27). But the Bible does make it clear that there are spirit beings—angels and demons—which operate in the heavenly realm. The angels serve God. They are ministering spirits who are sent by God “to serve those who will inherit salvation” (Hebrews 1:14). Demons, on the other hand, are fallen angels under the control of Satan, and they roam the earth looking to destroy God’s children (1 Peter 5:8). They are cunning and wise and keenly aware of our weaknesses and our propensity to desire that which will satisfy our fleshly desires. Worst of all, they can masquerade as “angels of light” or as “servants of righteousness” (2 Corinthians 11:14-15). Regarding the immensity of Satan’s earthly “operation,” the apostle John reminds us that the “whole world” is under his control (1 John 5:19).

Now, some of the paranormal activity we read about today could very well be hoaxes perpetuated on a public that is all too eager to believe. In some cases, well-meaning people could be innocently mistaken as to what they think they might have seen or experienced. There is probably a logical explanation for much of what gets passed off as “paranormal activity.” However, if there is genuine evil spiritual activity occurring, it would have to be the work of demons. Either way, however, when Christians read or hear of such activity we should not be intrigued by it or drawn to it; rather we should use it as a solid reminder of the spiritual battle that is the Christian life and the one against whom we struggle. “Our struggle is not against flesh and blood,” but, rather it is against the “powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 6:12 emphasis added).

Many people are no doubt intrigued by tales of ghosts and hauntings. Yet, if getting angry can give the devil a “foothold” into our lives (Ephesians 4:27), how much more so would a fascination with the “dark forces” of this world that he controls? Jesus Christ came to earth to destroy the devil’s work (1 John 3:8), and it took His death to accomplish it. Our response to paranormal activity, at least as it pertains to any sort of demonic activity, is to be reminded of the evil which ultimately led to our Savior’s great sacrifice. Beyond that, Christians should avoid any and all contact with the paranormal.

http://www.gotquestions.org/paranormal-activity.html
